The 45South Community Foundation is thrilled to announce it has received a $50,000 grant from Central Lakes Trust a major supporter of community development and wellbeing in the Central Lakes region, which will support the growth of local philanthropy and youth engagement across Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago districts. The grant includes operational support to help strengthen the Foundation’s capacity as it enters an exciting new chapter following its recent name change from the Wakatipu Community Foundation. The remaining funds will be dedicated to Generation Give, 45South’s youth philanthropy programme designed to foster a lifelong culture of giving among rangatahi (young people). “We’re incredibly grateful to Central Lakes Trust for this investment in both our organisation and the next generation of community leaders,” said Jennifer Belmont, Chief Executive of 45South. “This funding will help us continue building a strong foundation for long-term, place-based philanthropy—while also empowering local youth to discover the power of generosity and community action.” Generation Give, offers high school students the opportunity to learn about local needs, engage directly with charitable organisations, and make real-life grant decisions with funds they raise themselves. “This partnership is well aligned with our vision of strong, connected, and resilient communities.” said Barbara Bridger, CEO of Central Lakes Trust. Enabling people, education, and regional capacity building are key areas of focus for us. It’s inspiring to see young people step into leadership roles and learn about the value of giving and running a not-for-profit early on.” Central Lakes Trust is one of the largest philanthropic trusts in Aotearoa, having granted more than $160 million across the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes districts since its inception in 2000. Its support of organisations like 45South Foundation reflects a long-standing commitment to backing initiatives that deliver lasting local benefit. This funding partnership supports the long-term vision of 45South Foundation: thriving communities supported by strong local giving, now and for generations to come.
