Why make a bequest to 45South Foundation?
Making a gift in your will to 45South Foundation ensures that after you are gone, it will keep generating investment income into the future, with the majority of the income being annually granted according to your wishes. The balance is re-invested to keep growing the capital and subsequent income it generates for those charitable grants.
This is done through an endowment fund that grows and gives back forever - instead of being a "one and done" donation that may not have a lasting effect. A gift through 45South Foundation to your chosen charities is a social investment that provides a perpetual benefit to the charities and projects you support.
How can my charitable bequest best support my community?
45South Community
There so many charities in the Whakatipu and Central Lakes - some you will know, but many you may not be aware of, even in areas you are interested in supporting.
45South can help you make informed decisions to achieve meaningful social and environmental impact through the gift in your will.
We connect generous local people with front line organisations, so we can offer you the tools to give wisely.
As we can't see what the community needs are long into the future we also have the option to make a bequest to our 45Thrive Fund, which allows future trustees to allocate resources where the needs of the community are, and sector funds which support specific sectors, such as animal welfare, to protect against situations where the named charity may cease to operate.

How do I go about making a
gift in my will to 45South?
When you are thinking about making a bequest through your will, it is a balance between supporting your family and loved ones and making a meaningful bequest. The first step is to discuss your plans with your family, and what community values and causes you would like to support.
To formalise your intent to make a bequest to 45South, we will work with you to understand your wishes, and what you care about most, and help you tailor a Bequest Plan capturing what you would like to include in your will. At the same time, you should also seek professional advice from your lawyer and financial advisor.

How an Endowment Bequest Works
The first gift in will left to a community foundation was by Edna Brown who left a gift in her will of $67,000 to the Acorn Community Foundation. 22 years later, the original gift has grown to $100,529, with over $83,000 granted to health causes in the Bay of Plenty - more than the original gift.
