Whakatipu Youth Golf Development Fund

The Whakatipu Youth Golf Development Fund aims to grow youth golf in the Whakatipu, by supporting local youth who would like to play, or improve  their golf game.

In 2024, $12,500 was granted to 22 local youth wanting to develop their  golf skills including coaching and competition costs, and $1500 in support for the Wakatipu High School golf team.

Initial funds have been donated by the Whakatipu Junior Golf Club Charitable Trust (WJGC) and the Wombles Golfing Society.

The original purpose of the WJGC to support youth golf in the Whakatipu was  so successful it has been taken on by Golf NZ and rebranded as Futures Whakatipu. The WJGC had accumulated funds, and in addition, the Wombles Golfing Society has been quietly raising money for Junior Golf over the past few years. These funds have been pooled, and are now used to make annual distributions via the Youth Development Fund. Other generous donors are also contributing to the fund.

The Whakatipu Youth Golf Development Fund is available for youth players aged between 5-18, and  can be used for coaching, competition costs, travel costs or Futures Golf annual membership costs. While the focus is on coaching,  development and competition costs, in some cases  golf equipment will be  covered.

The assessment of the applications will be handled by the trustees of the WJGC and a representative from Futures Whakatipu.

Applications for the Golf Development Fund are open in January with a second round in June in time for Term 3 golf development.

Award Amount:  Up to $10,000 per year

Maximum per recipient: $1000 per year/12 month period. Recipients of funds in Round 1 can reapply up to a maximum of $500 in Round 2.

Timeline and application process: 2 funding rounds each year. Initial round: 1 January - 7th February 2025     Second Round: 3 June - 30 June 2025

Eligibility Requirements: Players aged 5-18 years who are members, or looking to be members, of Futures Golf Whakatipu
